In an official race, runners each get their own bib. The bibs are packed with information, the logo of the race, the distance/event, the runners personal id number, sponsors logos, and so on.
Some of you know that my brother is an artist--Gunnar Norquist. In recent years, he's been making large format drawings (I'm talking 6-8 feet wide). Every one of his pieces is stunning. I am honored that my bro gave me permission to use his drawing of an ancient olive tree on my bib.
Given the importance of olive trees in the Holy Land, the deep meaning my friends in Palestine find in olive trees as a metaphor of resilience, and the olive branch as a symbol of peace, I can't think of another image I would rather wear for this run.
I'm printing my bib on durable Tyvek (like a real bib) and will wear it for the race.
But I'm not alone in this race - you can be part of this cause too! I'm hoping you'll get out and walk or run as part of Team Ultra for Peace too. Choose to move your body for those whose bodies are at great risk right now.
So give $50 (or more!) to my fund raiser-->I'll send you your own bib-->get out there and move for peace! FYI - for those who want to express their support by doing something other than moving their bodies, you can use the bib as a bookmark and reminder to pray for peace, mercy, freedom, dignity, and security for all.
